Hinchinbrook Island is located 25 miles south of Mission Beach, east of Cardwell and north of Lucinda (around half way between Townsville and Cairns, Australia), separated from the north coast of Queensland, by the Hinchinbrook Channel.
Hinchinbrook Island is part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, World Heritage and is the largest island on the Great Barrier Reef. It is also the largest island national park in Australia.
Hinchinbrook Island has a range of habitats including mountains, sandy beaches, paperbark and palm wetlands, extensive woodlands, lush rainforests, eucalypt forests which descend to mangrove-fringed channels on the west, with many bays and rocky headlands along the east coast. Also there is smaller islands close by like Garden Island, Gould Island,the Brook Islands & the Family Islands( Dunk Island).
The mangroves forests, fringing reefs and grass beds provide food and shelter for many animals such as dolphins, dugongs, turtles and estuarine crocodiles.
When visiting the area it is highly likely you can encounter Hinchinbrook’s wildlife as there is 19 mammals, 32 reptiles and 150 bird species.

The Thorsborne Trail (commonly known as the East Coast trail) is one of the world's best walking adventures.
This 32km trail winds its way along the eastern edge of the magnificent island and snakes its way through a tropical wilderness, along stunning ocean beaches and crosses many crystal clear mountain streams which flow down from glorious waterfalls like Zoe Falls. For anyone wanting to experience an adventure, view spectacular scenery and enjoy isolation and to escape the madness of the city this unique island has so much to offer.

Mission Beach is a scenic halfway point between Townsville and Cairns and is approximately a 2 hour drive(to Cairns).
It is an unspoilt tropical paradise of World Heritage rainforest.
Mission Beach boasts of one the most golden and sandy beach around 14km in length. If you would like to escape, Mission Beach is a relaxed and friendly place.
Great Barrier Reef is only 38 kilometres from Mission Beach, making it one of the closest mainland access point to the Great Barrier Reef.
Big Mamas travels 25-30 miles to the Outer Great Barrier Reef & it can take 2 hours plus, depending on the weather.
Dunk Island,the Family Group of Islands and The Barnard Islands
These beautiful islands are a close by Mission Beach, and it is only 5 miles to Dunk Island.
You can spend a day in peace, crowd free, snorkel the fringing reef, relax on the beach or explore and enjoy the many wonderful National Park Wildlife walking tracks.
